Welcome to the process!

In Annie’s creative process, a piece can take anywhere from 3 months to 3 years to complete. Many have claimed never to have seen anything like it, and that’s because there is nothing like it. Integrating the medium with a minimalist approach and creating the medium itself is something that truly puts Annie in a category of her own.

  • Step 1: Collect: anything with cellulose. Cellulose consists of polysaccharide (C6H10O5) glucose units that constitute the chief part of the cell walls of a plant. Examples of cellulose: Iris leaves, Milkweed, Mulberry, Holly Hock, Bear grass

  • Step 2: Rett (soak in water) material for 3 weeks to 1 year to soften and separate plant fibers.

  • Step 3: Cook material. Can take as long as 2 weeks. Rinse. Repeat many times.

  • Step 5: when fibrils are fully separated the fiber pulp is ready to form sheets and sculpture.

  • Step 7: before a piece is finished it must dry. The hot desert air and central highlands of Arizona are the perfect conditions to finish Annie’s pieces. Beating
